Many people still think that you cannot install CCTV cameras into remote areas, because a number of modern CCTV systems require extensive wiring and WiFi to function at its best.
This is not the case anymore!
The team at New Vision Services have recently undertaken remote CCTV installations in Manchester. The location was Peel Tower in Holcombe Moor, Ramsbottom. If you take the circular walk around the Moor, Peel Tower offers a glorious stop atop the hill to catch your breath and admire the views, spanning across the North West. A CCTV installation was necessary here to ensure that the area’s natural beauty was left unharmed by visitors and passers by.
Peel Tower was built in 1852, and therefore lacking in many of the essential amenities we are accustomed to in modern-day life. This includes things such as WiFi connection, making CCTV installation in this remote area a definite challenge.
What kind of CCTV camera was installed?
Our team installed a PTZ camera (Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera) as well as a bullet camera. These allowed the Peel Tower team to benefit from the ability to move and zoom the camera as needed. The latest technology in our PTZ cameras ensures that nothing goes undetected! When tested out, the picture was clear enough (and the zoom strong enough) for us to see across the countryside and onto Snowdonia all the way in Wales. The view from the top of Peel Tower was breathtaking (as were the nearly 200 steps up to the top).
How have we made the impossible, possible?
The main challenge of this job was the lack of WiFi connection available. Electricity was already present, yet all CCTVs cameras need a WiFi connection to feed their live video through to the viewer. To overcome this, our team installed a mobile SIM card with unlimited data into the cameras and connected this to a nearby tower, which had a strong WiFi signal two miles away. This allowed the CCTV cameras to easily connect to the Peel Tower head office, over five miles away in Bury!
This job took us five hours to complete in total and the Peel Tower team were very pleased with the end result.
